Gabi Grecko refers to Geoffrey Edelsten's son as her next husband

Geoffrey Edelsten’s only child and heir has been linked to his father’s self-professed widow, with Gabi Grecko teasing a love match with Matthew Beard.

The heir to Geoffrey Edelsten’s estate — his only child, Matthew Beard — has struck up a special bond with his father’s widow, Gabi Grecko, with the New York-based artist, rapper and fashion designer referring to him as her next husband.

Beard and Grecko made contact with each other via social media, united by their grief after the passing of the colourful and controversial Melbourne entrepreneur in June.

“Gabi is very nice, she has a great sense of humour and they get along very well,” a friend of Beard’s confirmed.

When asked by a social media fan if he could be her new hubby, Grecko sparked potential romance rumours by replying “@beardy_mrcasanova is up next.”

Grecko said Beard, 32, a muscled and artistically tattooed Sydney-based fitness enthusiast, reminded her of her lost love.

“He is definitely an attractive guy and I’m amazed how alike they are,” Grecko said.

“Geoff used to get emotional when he saw emails from Matthew’s mother Isabel with updates about his son and I’m also amazed how similar their mannerisms are.

“Over Facetime they make the same hand gestures and it almost feels like I’m talking to Geoff.”

Beard is fiercely private, unlike his late father, who was in the public spotlight for decades.

Despite contrary beliefs, the pair kept in touch over the years via phone and email, but had not seen each other since Beard was a child.

Friends say that while they may not have had the closest contact “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

Much like his flamboyant father, Beard has a taste for designer clothing and is known for wearing chunky gold rings and chains.

He also sports permanent gold teeth.

Beard is active on social media under the name @beardy_mrcasanova, which features numerous gym selfies.

Another friend described him as a “ladies’ man.”

“He is a ladies’ man, a lot like his father. He will post stories of very attractive women on his Instagram on most weekends.”

While there has been much speculation over Edelsten’s will, as his only child, Beard would likely be at the top of the beneficiaries of the estate.

For years, Beard has been referred to as Edelsten’s “secret son, but friends say it has always been widely known in Sydney who his father was, and that he preferred to use his mother’s surname for the sake of privacy.

Beard declined to make any comment when contacted about his late father.

Edelsten passed away on June 11 in his St Kilda Road apartment, aged 78.
