Footy Show legend and podcaster Sam Newman’s car was broken into and a man found sleeping in the front seat while the former Geelong great was supporting western suburb’s youth worker Les Twentyman at a fundraiser at Crown.
The strange situation unfolded on Friday night when Newman parked in valet at the Whiteman Street entrance to Crown.
About an hour into the Les Twentyman Foundation Dinner on the Crown Rooftop, Newman was contacted by venue security and asked to come down to the valet area.
About an hour into the Les Twentyman Foundation Dinner on the Crown Rooftop, Newman was contacted by venue security and asked to come down to the valet area.
There he discovered a dishevelled man had got into his vintage mustang, rifled through the glove box, taken a pair of sunglasses and then fallen asleep on the front seat.
After discovering the snoozing opportunist, the carparking attendant contacted the police.
A bemused Newman said the car was not damaged. The sunglasses were later recovered and returned.
Newman then returned to the LTF Charity Dinner and provided an afternoon for 10 people on his boat as an auction item which raised $14,000 for the foundation that supports at-risk youth.
