Broadcaster Rex Hunt, who was part of Richmond’s 1969 and 1973 premiership sides, said it was time for this generation of players to write their own glorious history.

“After such a long drought we got up in 2017 and there was a window of opportunity for this young group to make their own history and they are certainly doing that,” Hunt said.

“They have got a great opportunity to win their third flag since 2017 and all of the Richmond fans are right behind them because they represent so many hundreds of thousands of people.

“It just brings back so many memories of 50 years ago when we were all 19 and 20-years-old and we made our own history and we get together as old fellows and celebrate those memories.

“I just hope they can go on and win this flag and write their own incredible chapter in the Club’s history.”

Commentator Steve Price said Richmond needed to win the premiership not just for Tiger fans but for all Victorians.

“Bring the cup back to Victoria,” Price said.

“We do not want it going anywhere else, particularly to Brisbane.

“We need it to be in Geelong or in Richmond. That is where we need to cup to be.”

He said beating Port Adelaide to get into the Grand Final was particularly sweet.

“I am a South Australian and I grew up hating Port Adelaide. Getting to the Grand Final is fabulous but watching David Koch (Sunrise host and Port Adelaide president) in the crowd not get to the Grand Final was probably one of the greatest moments of my life.”
