Former Victorian Labor minister Tim Holding has tied the knot with his fiance Felicity Selkirk in the chapel of the 237-year-old, 105-room, Louis XVI style chateau the couple has been painstakingly restoring in rural France.
The couple wed in a stunning, romantic and intimate ceremony at their Chateau de Purnon on June 21.
Before life as a champion of French culture and heritage, and ambitious renovator, Holding was a minister in the Steve Bracks and John Brumby governments who was once mooted as a possible future Premier.
Holding quit politics in 2013 and the following year moved to France. He and Selkirk purchased the then crumbling Chateau de Purnon, set on 24-hectares in Verrue, 3½ hours southwest of Paris, for $1.9m in 2020.
It has been their labour of love — literally — since with the couple sharing “a secret dream” to be married in Purnon’s chapel.
Their dream became a reality three weeks ago.
“In Purnon’s sublime chapel surrounded by family and friends we took the next step in our journey together,” Selkirk shared on social media.”
She and Holding exchanged personalist poetic vows, with Selkirk’s in part reading “for 15 years you’ve been by my side, you’re my calm, my joy, my pride. We’ve roamed the world, just me and you. I’ve climbed many a mountain following you. It’s where I’m my happiest, when we’re side-by-side, together forever on this wild ride. So today I promise you all my heart, you’ve always had it right from the start.”
Selkirk wore a majestic bridal gown by Melbourne master couturier Toni Maticevski.
