Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam has shunned the celebrity set and immersed himself in “real” Melbourne during an under the radar month long stay in town.
The Village Green Hotel in Mulgrave, the Tyabb Packing House in Tyabb and Mornington have all been haunts for the easygoing film and TV pin up, rather than the usual influencer infested city hot spots.
And on a week pretty light on for celebrities, marquee organisers were praying on Cup Day that Hunnam would appear and save the Flemington Birdcage from becoming humdrum.
But alas, he was a no show.
“He was a maybe at best, we were really just keeping our fingers crossed,” one marquee minder noted.
Hunnam, who has been working on the Apple TV production, Shantaram, and was in Melbourne earlier this year to film The True History Of The Kelly Gang, was spotted at the UFC234 at Marvel Stadium on October 5, but since then he has not put himself on show.
However his low-key ventures around Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula have certainly been noted by locals.
He was at the Village Green Hotel watching UFC prompting one fan to post: “Apparently Charlie Hunnam just comes to the Village Green to watch the UFC … WTF!”
His visit to the Tyabb Packing House saw him spend time at the Silver Screen film memorabilia store, and Mornington’s God’s Kitchen Restaurant had some unexpected star power when Hunnam called in for a feed last week.
Hunnam left Melbourne on Friday, with India among his next stops.
He is expected to be back in Australia in April for filming commitments of up to five months.
