When Melbourne fashion icon Bec Judd sent social media into meltdown on Friday, rewriting the rules for black tie dressing in a daring and skimpy after dark number, questions tumbled onto Instagram asking who created the modern-glam two-piece ensemble.
The stunning black bralette and skirt was the debut offering from new Melbourne label Rostom by Fifi, with the designer, Fifi Rostom the wife of Carlo Salanitri from the viral comedy trio Sooshi Mango.
“Bec Judd in a Rostom by Fifi dress is a dream,” said Rostom.
“Not only is she someone whose style I admire, her aesthetic suits my brand perfectly. I am beyond thrilled. She is stunning, kind and an absolute sweetheart too.”
Rostom had more than two decades of event management experience behind her when she switched her business focus during the Covid lockdown to her passion for sewing.
Inspired by her grandmother, Rostom is an artisan craftswoman, having taught herself to sketch designs, patternmaking, and the art of seamstressing.
“I am currently the architect, the labourer, the saleswoman, all of it,” said Rostom.
“I would never work in an industry unless I understand every single element. It’s just how I’m wired.
“When life threw me a curve ball (Covid), it gave me the perfect opportunity to reassess what makes me happy.
“Sewing and fashion and all that comes with the process lights me up. And seeing women wear my designs with confidence reaffirms within me that this is my destined path.”
The limited edition debut collection by Rostom by Fifi is now available.
