Baby Bomber on the way for Essendon captain Zach Merrett and wife Alexandra

The Essendon star has thrilled Bombers fans with a special family announcement while a Collingwood premiership favourite has welcomed his first child.

Essendon football club captain Zach Merrett has revealed a baby Bomber is on the way.

Merrett and his wife Alexandra jointly announced they were expecting their first child on Instagram on Friday night.

“Baby Merrett 🤍 We’ve been waiting for you,” they posted along with several beautiful portraits of Merrett and Alexandra and her growing tummy.

“Baby M. My everything and more,” Alexandra wrote on a separate social media post.

Friends, Merrett’s Essendon teammates and other footy WAGS quickly posted messages of congratulations on Alexandra’s post.

“Congratulations guys,” wrote Andrew McGrath.

“Can’t wait to meet you Baby M,” posted racing commentator Katelyn Mallyon.

“Congratulations angel,” wrote Sarah Roughhead.

Meanwhile Collingwood premiership player Oleg Markov and his partner Becky Kay have announced the birth of their first child.

Lennox Markov was born on July 26 with the couple sharing their delight via two images posted to social media.

In one image Markov and Kay and Lennox are joined by their dog, Chip, who is wearing a Collingwood jumper.
