AFTER much hype, European clothing giant H&M launched tonight in Melbourne with a celebrity filled red carpet event.
Managing director of H&M Hans Anderson said Melbourne is the perfect place to open the first Australian store.
“The Melbourne fashion customer is very well informed and hopefully they will like our collection,”he said.
“I hope it will add something to the fashion scene here and I hope we can come with some exciting and thrilling surprises.”
Basketball Liz Cambage said the store would add so much to Melbourne.
“Whenever I’m overseas I also go to H&M, they always have such fabulous collections, so it’s great to finally have the store in Australia,” she said.

Model twins Jordan and Zac Stenmark gave the red carpet sibling sizzle.
Jordan said: “We love Melbourne fashion. It has a real indie, free spirit here. Sydney shows more skin.”
Zac added: “I associate Melbourne fashion with the New York scene. They’re so similar.”
Nick Giannopoulos said: “Its great for Melbourne. It’s one of my favourite stores in Europe, especially Athens so it’s great to see it in Melbourne.”
Over 1000 guests attended the night, eating food by Melbourne chef Adam D’Sylva, with US rock sister band Haim performing.
