Disgraced radio star Marty Sheargold’s replacement revealed as NRL legend Nathan Hindmarsh

Sheargold lost his job at Triple M in February after making vile remarks about the Matildas, and now he’s been replaced.

It has been revealed that a footy legend has been tapped to take over Marty Sheargold’s coveted radio slot following his controversial departure earlier this year.

Sheargold sparked outrage when he made derogatory remarks about the Matildas and women’s sport in general.

He claimed on his Triple M radio show (which aired nationally from 3-4pm, and then into NSW and QLD for an additional two hours until 6pm) that the professional football team reminded him of “year 10 girls” and he said he would “rather hammer a nail” through his penis than watch women’s sport.

In the wake of his departure, Sheargold’s 4-6pm Rush Hour show for NSW listeners will now be hosted by NRL great Nathan Hindmarsh, along with broadcaster Anthony Maroon, sports reporter Adam Peacock, and NRLW premiership players Millie Elliott, Sam Bremner and Keeley Davis.

Hindmarsh, who captained the Parramatta Eels, has enjoyed a long-running TV role with Fox Sports show since retiring from the sport in 2012.

As for Triple M listeners in Qld, they’re set to get a different Rush Hour hosted by Ben ‘Dobbo’ Dobbin and Elliott Lovejoy.

The duo will be joined by a rotating line-up of respected NRLW stars including Ali Brigginshaw, Romy Teitzel, Jaime Chapman and Mackenzie Weale.

Following intense public backlash from Sheargold’s on-air remarks earlier this year, Southern Cross Austereo Chief Content Officer Dave Cameron, confirmed Sheargold and the network had “mutually agreed to part ways”.

Sheargold later issued an apology for his remarks about the Matildas, saying: “Any comedy including mine can miss the mark sometimes, and I can see why people may have taken offence at my comments regarding the Matildas. I sincerely apologise.”

His remarks became the focus of such backlash that even Anthony Albanese added his voice to the wave of criticism.

“They were just shocking comments that anyone could think it, let alone say it,” the Prime Minister said.

“Completely unacceptable. The Tillies are just legends. They excited and brought together the whole country. The whole country was united in cheering for them.”

Along with his derogatory comments about the Matildas, Sheargold also sparked outrage when he weighed in on an important women’s health issue.

“God, don’t ladies carry on. Jesus Christ, there is no end of it,” he told listeners, “Honestly, endometriosis, and this is controversial. No, I’m going to say it, it’s controversial. It’s made-up.”
