Dave Hughes has revealed he’s quit Twitter due to its nastiness.

The comedian and radio host had been one of the social media platform’s most vocal users during Covid lockdowns.

“My name trends on Twitter all the time and it still does whenever I’m on TV,’’ the Masked Singer panellist said on his 2DAY FM Hughesy, Ed & Erin breakfast show.

“I never click on my name when it trends on Twitter because it’s always nastiness. There’ll be people defending you as well but the nastiness always weighs out because the nastiness is what makes these social media platforms thrive, especially Twitter.”

Hughesy was a judge on the 2022 season of The Masked Singer.

Hughes said the final straw was when he saw nastiness directed to singer Tina Arena.

“I would click on other people’s names to watch what was said about them. I did it one day on Tina Arena, I clicked on her name and it was just an avalanche of rubbish. I thought this is not worth anyone’s time, it was ridiculous. People will find negative things to say about everybody. I’m over it, it’s not worth it.”

Hughes said he found an enlightened state of mind during lockdown due to meditating twice a day.

He is still commuting between Melbourne and Sydney and is on the hunt for a house to buy in Sydney.
