Dave Hughes says he’s making the move to Sydney feeling better than ever at age 50.
The comedian and broadcaster celebrated his birthday milestone on Thursday, just days after announcing he’s joining the 2DAYFM breakfast crew with Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan.
Hughesy, wife Holly and their three children will relocate early next year.
“I do love Melbourne but you know what, something different,’’ Hughes said.
“Holly is banging on about moving overseas but I can’t really work overseas. If we move somewhere in Australia at least I can work.
“I do love Melbourne but have lived here since 1995 so it’ll be fun to try another part of Australia for a while.
“They’ve committed long term and they’re happy for a slow build which is great. We’re just going to have fun which is what I always do.”
Hughes will next year film Hughesy We Have a Problem in Sydney for Network 10, as well as The Masked Singer, with a location to be confirmed.
He is already fielding calls from Sydney radio giant and rival Kyle Sandilands, but he’s not fazed.
“I think he wants a mate,’’ said Hughes, who co-hosts Hughesy and Ed on FOX FM.
“He’s fine, we’re good. I walk around Sydney and get recognised everywhere.
“There will be a bit of back and forth.”
He said he had felt the birthday love, especially from colleagues who organised a billboard and sky sign writing with spelling later corrected.
“It’s a big milestone, I was worried about it but it’s nice,’’ Hughes said.
“A lot of people are contacting me I haven’t spoken to in ages. I feel young, I feel youthful.
“I do run every day and I’m not getting sore, I’m feeling good.”
