Dale Thomas champions Abbey Holmes’ professionalism in wake of kiss controversy with Lachie Neale

Dale Thomas and Abbey Holmes are set to showcase the glitz and glam of the red carpet on Monday night — but Thomas has a clear message for footballers wanting to greet the hosts.

Dale Thomas is all for a footballer giving Abbey Holmes “a hug or a kiss” on the Brownlow Medal red carpet.

Thomas was one of the first to jump to Holmes’ defence when controversy erupted earlier in the season over Lachie Neale giving Holmes a kiss on the cheek after a post-game on ground interview.

The pair will showcase all the glitz and glamour on Seven’s coverage of the Brownlow on Monday night from Crown Melbourne.

“I think the beauty of Abs is the relationship she has with all players and being an all around pro,’’ Thomas said.

“It shows a great deal of respect and won’t worry her if she gets a hug or a kiss on the carpet. I’m a hugger as well. It comes from a place of professionalism and she’s a star, we have so much fun.”

Holmes said Thomas had given her much support through the year.

“He just makes work so much fun and we have a pre-game kick,’’ Holmes said.

“He’s been super supportive of me and always checking in, especially after the Lachie Neale stuff. That’s what friends do and while you never want to be the centre of the news I had so much support from everyone across the industry that there were a lot of positives to come out of it.”

At Crown, Holmes wears Cappellazzo Couture, styled by Lana Wilkinson and Thomas wears Peter Jackson, styled by Tamare Kara.
