MELBOURNE model Andreja Pejic says she is finally starting to feel settled in life after undergoing a sex change.
“It’s taken a bit of time to feel calm about everything and to just start having fun with life,” Pejic said at the Angel Ball in New York last week.
“Just to experience life as a girl. Doing road trips around America and getting drunk at bars. I feel happier and more settled than ever.”
Pejic, who underwent reassignment surgery in 2014, was the first openly transgender model profiled by Vogue and has shot many high profile campaigns.
Based in New York Pejic said she will never forget her Broadmeadows upbringing.
“I love Australia, it’s my home and I am from Broady. I’ve still got the roots and got the hood in me,” she said.
“I like to think of myself as a working class hero. It’s important to remember the working man and working woman. I’ll never forget that.”
