Abbie Chatfield has confirmed her split from Konrad Bien-Stephens after weeks of speculation, declaring she won’t publicly share another relationship again.
Chatfield, podcast and radio host and TV personality, said “nipping it in the bud” was necessary as commentary swirled about the break-up.
In a video posted to Instagram she said the pair split a couple of months ago after 10 months together and it had nothing to do with their open relationship status.
“This is going to seem really out of the blue and really strange timing,” the Masked Singer judge, 27, said.
“There’s reasons why I haven’t confirmed this yet but there’s been a lot of speculation and articles and rumours.
“I guess I wanted to confirm that yeah, Konrad and I have broken up. We’ve been broken up for a couple of months now.
“No one did anything bad or awful, there’s no drama to it,” she added.
“It was not because we were in an open relationship. Thanks for all those opinion pieces, d...heads who wrote about my relationship. Nothing bad happened.
“I wasn’t being deceitful by not telling people, there was a reason why there was a delay in telling you all,” she explained of her silence.
“But I just didn’t want to be caught by paparazzi seeing someone else or whatever... him not living here anymore.”
Admitting she felt “anxious” about the situation, Chatfield continued that she “probably won’t share (her) relationship publicly again” due to the scrutiny.
She said it wasn’t a messy break-up, contrary to reports that it may have been to do with Konrad, who is currently overseas appearing in Channel 10’s new reality show The Challenge, hooking up with former Bachelor contestant Megan Marx during filming.
“I don’t really owe any of you an explanation,’’ Chatfield said.
“I just feel like nipping it in the bud... we’re broken up, it’s not a secret, it’s not anything bad, it’s not anything dramatic, it just is what it is.
“I probably won’t ever share my relationship publicly again to be honest because this whole situation and the way the media have f..king reported on it... like it’s a game, like my relationship is a game... it’s quite f..ked.”
The couple first spoke of their open relationship in February, which attracted a mixed response.
It’s not the first time Chatfield has addressed criticism of her relationship.
Speaking to Stellar in July, she said: “I’ve never been upset or threatened by someone (I’m in a relationship with) sleeping with someone else. It’s my kink. I just never really valued monogamy that much,” she told the publication.
“It sounds awful, but I don’t really see him all that much, maybe two days a week. I don’t know if it’s scarcity, but he’s very good at communicating, and so am I.”
On her It’s a Lot podcast, she said: “Some of you f..kers are so embarrassingly triggered because you’re so insecure, you’re like ‘but if you love someone’, not me, not him.
“It’s fine, if that’s how you feel, be monogamous, love that for you
“But why do you care if I f..k someone else or he f..ks someone else.”
