Hollywood star Hugh Jackman has spent Christmas in Melbourne.
Jackman spent a couple of low-key days in the city, dining at the CBD’s hottest new restaurant and catching up with long time friends.
He attended the first day of the Boxing Day test at the MCG, alerting fans to his presence at the game by posting a photo on Instagram.
In the lead-up to Christmas he checked out Melbourne’s most talked about new upmarket eatery, Maison Batard.
Excited fellow diners shared their delight at having Wolverine sitting at the next table.
Jackman arrived in Sydney in mid-December with his children Oscar, 24, and Ava, 19 and was snapped having a dip at Bondi Beach.
Jackman’s 2024 highlight was the box office success of the film Deadpool & Wolverine which he starred in alongside Ryan Reynolds.
The movie premiered in July and ended up as the second highest box office film of the year, grossing more than a billion dollars.
Jackman was not the only famous name soaking up some cricket action. Melbourne’s F1 ace Oscar Piastri was among the MCG crowd on Saturday enjoying a Christmas break at home before heading back to Europe for the 2025 grand prix season.
Piastri played cricket at school, but the McLaren driver told Fox Sports he did not possess any brilliance with the bat.
“I participated, I’ll say that,” he said. “I was more of a bowler than a batter, but never at a very high level. It was kind of the only sport left that I could play in the off-season of racing.”
