Emma Hawkins is glad the AFL season kicked off, and has praised the competition for its leadership.
The businesswoman wife of Geelong forward Tom Hawkins, Emma said: “I think at this stage there’s a group of incredibly intelligent people whose aim was to make the right decision for everyone, and at this current stage everyone should welcome a bit of normality and a
bit of a distraction.
“We’re feeling isolated as a community and there’s nothing better than footy to bring us together.
“I don’t envy anyone in leadership positions, but I think (AFL CEO) Gil (McLachlan) has done an exceptional job in handling this.
“I’ve seen a bit of negative commentary and understand people are worried, but if this fits in with the health guidelines we should do it and I hope they play more in future.”
The Hawkins have two young daughters and have implemented strict measures to keep the household clean.
“At the end of the day we’re all Australians with a pretty successful healthcare system,” she said.
Hawkins hosted an event last week for Ceres Life, an organic-based womenswear fashion brand.
“They use a lot of recycled fabrics and everything has been consciously curated. It’s a brand that’s inspired by the women they know and lead very enriched lives,’’ Emma said.
