But, for Married at First Sight’s Tracey Jewel, there was a good reason she decided to stay with Dean Wells after Sunday’s controversial commitment ceremony — revenge.

The 34 year-old single mum from Perth, who found out her TV groom had been “cheating” on her with fellow MAFS participant Davina Rankin, says she wanted to publicly hold Wells to account.

“Guys like (Dean) think they can get away with it — and he’d never have to see me again if I left,” she told Confidential.

“He wouldn’t have any consequences, and he wouldn’t be accountable.

“I thought, ‘No, I’m going to make you be responsible and see this week through, so you can see what you have done’.

“I know that sounds spiteful, but guys like this get away with this s--- all the time. And it wasn’t going to work with me.”

Viewers have rallied around Jewel after Sunday’s episode, roundly condemning Wells and Rankin for their behaviour.

Jewel says staying put on the show helped her get some closure.

“I didn’t want to leave that night, because I felt like ... there were a few things running around my mind,” she said.

“One was: ‘I need answers. I need closure. And I am not going to get them on this couch, tonight. I need time to process this. And I want to see the text messages.’

“This is just the type of person I am. I was like: ‘I want to know everything. Tell me everything.’ So I can make a decision, and get closure on this.”

It isn’t just Wells bearing the brunt of Jewel’s anger. Rankin is also in her sights.

“I felt like, ‘You know what, girls like Davina think they can get away with this,’” she said. “And yes, at 26 you can get away with it — or you think you can, and you think you can have any guy you want — but let me tell you, in 10 years’ time, Davina, you’re not going to be able to get away with this crap.

“And hopefully she’s learnt the lesson now, rather than later.”

This week will see Rankin and Jewel head off for “home stay” week. And you can bet things will get awkward.

But for the time being, Jewel is prepared to give her on-screen husband the benefit of the doubt.

“Look, (Dean) was very, very remorseful at that second commitment ceremony,” Jewel said.

“And I did know him enough to know that there was some genuineness in that.

“He was acting not with his head, but with something else. I think it hit him, what he did — he realised it.”

Jewel says home stay week came at just the right time.

“I felt like everyone had such a strong opinion, which you would have seen (with) Sarah and Nas,” she says.

“I felt like I can’t deal with everyone else and my own stuff right now. It’s probably best we’re away from the other couples. It was kind of good timing.”

Jewel said she was comforted by the public’s support.

“It’s so lovely,” she says. “I am seeing #prayfortracey, and #teamtracey and I am like, you know what? I can do with all the prayers — so thanks!”
