Wedding bells ring at footy’s off-season weddings

These AFL famous faces kicked personal goals during the off-season, saying “I do” at glamorous, star-studded wedding ceremonies.

Footballers have used the off-season to kick some personal goals, with many weddings bringing love, pride and happiness.

The most recent nuptials were North Melbourne star Jack Ziebell and his wife Shan, who tied the knot at Mitchelton Winery on New Year’s Day this year.

The couple have a six-month-old daughter, Pippa. “Best day. Best bridal party. Best wife,’’ Ziebell wrote on Instagram.

Just last week, Essendon star Michael Hurley married his love, Chelsea Hewson, in the Moorabool Valley on December 29.

Among guests were many of his Bombers teammates, as well as retired Thomas Bellchambers and his fiance, Olympia Valance.

But the celebrations have been rocked by a Covid scare and it is believed several Essendon players were exposed to the virus at the wedding.

At this stage, it is unclear whether the players in attendance have contracted the virus or which players are isolating.

Former Demon and Port Adelaide midfielder Jack Trengove married Sarah Clements in a stunning setting at Balnarring, with Melbourne captain Max Gawn and Magpies defender Jeremy Howe among guests.

“Dreams really do come true. The greatest day of my life,’’ Trengove wrote on Instagram.

On December 30, Geelong premiership forward Shannon Byrnes married his partner Megan Hanna at Acacia Ridge Vineyard in the Yarra Valley.

A who’s who of his former Cats teammates were among guests, including best man Steve Johnson plus Cameron Ling, Jimmy Bartel, Gary Ablett, Andrew Mackie, Tom Lonergan, James Kelly and Mathew Stokes.

“Mark it down as one of the greatest days of all time,’’ Byrnes wrote on Instagram.

In South Australia, Crows and former Pies midfielder Paul Seedsman married his model wife Alice in a beautiful ceremony at Alkina Wine Estate on December 28.

Seedsman wrote on Instagram: “7 years of making memories together. This by far the best one yet. I am so grateful to have you by my side. (And yes I am batting above my average). I love you’’.
