Spin king Shane Warne says he’s “sad” his romance with actor Elizabeth Hurley is over because he still cares about her “deeply”.
In a revealing chat on A Week With Warnie, airing on Fox Sports this week, Warne says: “It’s quite sad it’s over because I still care about her deeply.
“She’s a wonderful person. It was the sporting world met her world. And wow! It was one of those things where we just collided.”
Warne and Hurley dated from 2011 to 2013, and they were engaged for a short time.
“I didn’t introduce her to my children until it was real,” Warne said in the Fox Sports interview. “I believed it had a future, it wasn’t just a bit of fun.
“Six months down the track she finally comes to meet the children in Australia. It was an absolute circus. The next door neighbours kids were selling cordial for a buck out the front,” Warne said, laughing.
“All sorts of things were happening, They were trying to drop golf clubs out the front with her name on them.”
To top it all off, Warne had new beds and mattresses delivered to the house while Hurley was there.
“I was renovating my house and we got all new bedrooms, and we all got new beds. Of course (the story became), ‘Shane Warne got rid of the old mattress, let’s put in the new one!’”
Warne also discusses his friendship with Coldplay superstar Chris Martin in the Fox Sports special.
“Chris Martin is one of my best friends. He’s one of the top five mates I have,” Warne said.
Warne and Martin met in an elevator at a London hotel in 2000.
“I looked over, there’s another guy in the corner, and he did a double take ... ‘Are you?’”
Warne introduced himself and Martin invited him for a drink.
“I went up to his room and we watched the sun come up. We clicked straight away and that was 20 years ago. We’ve been mates ever since.”
A Week With Warnie is screening on Fox Sports, on Foxtel, every night until Sunday.
