Toni Pearen says she was “quite distressed” before reliving her terrifying snake trial but is bracing for more uncomfortable viewing on I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!

Fast becoming a viewer favourite for her fearless attitude, the former actor is on Monday night taking on the jungle’s first solo challenge — a 50m tower of terror named Vertigo.

Pearen was bitten on the face by multiple snakes but managed to withstand the pain.

“I’d heard about that trial where Jack (Vidgen) had to put his hand in the hidden box and Abbie (Chatfield) was under the water, and watching it I was really quite distressed and emotional,’’ Pearen said.

“I was sitting there bawling my eyes out and my husband was sitting there looking at me like I was some sort of freak. The reality hit me really hard and I didn’t think I’d be able to watch my trial because of how I reacted watching Jack and Abbie.

“But I did watch it and it made me realise how invincible I am. I was so in the moment for that trial. I was pleasantly impressed with myself and I didn’t realise I handled it so well and graciously.”

Pearen said her son couldn’t watch her snake trial but her children and husband were calling her a superwoman.

“It was a great deal of pressure, pressure you don’t often feel in life,’’ Pearen said.

“Even though it’s a TV show and we knew we were making TV, the stakes were so high every single day. The stress that has on your body, it was a pretty revealing time of our lives.

“And my husband just thinks I’m superwoman. I’m still cooking dinner and doing the dishes and picking up the dog poo, but I think he certainly has a new respect for me and that’s always nice after 17 years of being together.

“It’s really sweet, my daughter she’s always looked up to me and now it’s just changed and she cannot believe I did that.”
