Melbourne singer Tones And I’s mega-hit Dance Monkey has been named the most streamed song ever by a female artist on Spotify.
The song, released last year, when Tones (born Toni Watson) eked out a life as a busker, has hit No.1 in 30 countries, and clocked up 1.4 billion streams on Spotify.
Dance Monkey has also gleaned seven billions streams across all streaming platforms.
Watson’s record company, Sony Music, today confirmed Watson’s Spotify streaming milestone.
Her management team told website The Music: “Seeing Tones surpass seven billion global streams of Dance Monkey within 12 months since release is a monumental achievement and we are incredibly proud of her.
“The management team are very excited for what’s to come this year and can’t wait for the world to hear the songs Tones has written.”
Last month, as part of International Women’s Day, Spotify revealed the most streamed female artists on its platform.
US superstar Billie Eilish was No.1 with 10.3 billion all-time streams on Spotify, and more than 60 million monthly listeners.
Taylor Swift was second, followed by Ariana Grande, Halsey and Camila Cabello.
Selena Gomez, Dua Lipa, Nicki Minaj, and Tones and I rounded out the list.
