Channel 7’s chief footy reporter Tom Browne is back at work and on the mend after suffering a health scare.
Browne was admitted to Cabrini Hospital last month after an infection required surgery.
He was in there for six days and has made good progress in his recovery, returning to the newsroom last week.
The son of Collingwood president Jeff Browne, Tom and wife Tara will welcome their second child in early March.
He and his colleague Mitch Cleary have spearheaded sport on the nightly news which has helped Channel 7 win the ratings year.
Seven won 32 weeks out of the 39 after a decade of coming second behind Channel 9.
Browne is always urging people to be vigilant of their health after discovering he was diabetic at age 32, eight years ago.
He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It requires ongoing management but he is fit and healthy and said the condition would not hold him back.
“I think a lot of people with diabetes have a similar attitude to me and that is they just want to get on with life, but the reality is it is a serious illness,’’ he said.
“I think people should be inspired by the likes of (footballers) Paddy McCartin and Sam Reid; you should not let it hold you back.”
