Former bikie boss turned influencer Toby Mitchell is set to star on his first movie role.
Mitchell features in a movie-length pilot for a planned television drama called Monk 458 helmed by writer, producer and director Dale C. Reeves.
The role is not a stretch for Mitchell: he plays a bikie alongside the film’s co-stars and real-life Melbourne hard men, George Zakharia, a former kickboxing champion, and Dave Hedgecock, a legend in boxing and security circles.
Monk 458’s leading man is Richard Norton, marital arts legend, actor and former bodyguard for the Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Fleetwood Mac.
Reeves, whose film credits include Lords of the Underworld and Nightclubber, also stars Monk 458.
“Four older men (played Norton, Zakharia, Hedgecock and Reeves) cross paths through a tarot reader and an Indigenous elder who guides them as they form an unusual bond breaking judicial barriers to protect the innocent,” a summary of the film says.
Reeves has finished shooting the independent film and is working on CGI effects before he pitches the project to streaming platforms.
“It’s gritty, it’s real, with very strong spiritual overtones,” Reeves said. “It’s our stories but set in a fictional world.”
Reeves said Zakharia, Hedgecock and Mitchell are “superb” in their first-ever acting roles. “They are very good — George, Dave and Toby. They’re not even acting, they’re playing themselves,” Reeves said.
“It’s not b-grade. All the acting is superb, apart from myself, obviously,” he added, with a laugh.
“Toby is introduced (in the film) via a meeting with his boss (played by Hedgecock). Toby doesn’t have a speaking role, but he has great presence. George and Dave are leads, so they have tons of dialogue. People will be very surprised, even shocked by how good they are.”
