Time On is your wrap-up of all the footy media gossip and banter.
Former St Kilda players have rallied around Sam Fisher ahead of his return to court on Monday when he will likely face jail time.
Earlier this month Fisher, who remains on bail, pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and is due to appear for a pre-sentence hearing.
Fisher played 228 games for St Kilda during an illustrious footy career and on Thursday was surrounded by friends including Steven Baker, Sam Gilbert, Stephen Milne, Nick Dal Santo, Robert Eddy, Jack Steven, Zac Dawson and Jason Gram at a venue in South Melbourne.
“So many great times with these boys also some shit ones, but mates for life,’’ Baker captioned a picture of the group on social media.
Fisher blamed his daily drug habit of meth and GHB, combined with debilitating injuries and the loss of his job, for causing his addiction to spiral in 2022.
Bevo’s son sizzles in photo shoot
Kye Beveridge, the son of Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge, is giving Bailey Smith a run in the six-pack stakes.
The model posted sizzling images of his latest photo shoot to Instagram on Tuesday night, showing his chiselled physique while sporting nothing but underwear.
Kye, who signed with Precision Modelling last year and is dating fellow model Ebony Let, captioned the picture “hard launch” and tagged in leading Australian designer Toni Maticevski.
The tradie’s followers were lapping up the steamy post.
He told the Herald Sun he was a reluctant model at first but the key is not to take himself too seriously.
“Dad and I are super tight,’’ Kye said.
“He was a good-looking rooster when he was young so maybe he wishes he had done it. I honestly think he is more proud of this than any other footy thing.”
In it for the clicks?
Richmond’s official club podcast is miffed at the media’s obsession with Dustin Martin’s future at the club.
Talking Tigers podcast host Tony Greenberg, who previously headed up the club’s media department, hit out at the “clickbait” coverage.
“What is the media’s obsession with Richmond players departing Punt Road?
“It’s been Dusty for years, and they won’t let up on Dusty.”
Greenberg’s co-host and Tigers legend Matthew Richardson chimed in: “(Sam) McClure’s had him going to the Suns for six years now.”
“Honestly it’s every week, and probably twice a week or more,” Greenberg continued.
“Now it’s Liam Baker … and Dusty retiring or going to the Gold Coast, is he going to go join up with Dimma?
“Then of course because Daniel Rioli was up there a few days … he’s gone and met Dimma — that’s OK, he used to live with Dimma — … then he’s door stopped at the airport?
“It’s just repetitive. It’s a bit boring really.”
Back in their old stomping ground
Channel 7 colleagues Brian Taylor and Matthew Richardson will explore Collingwood and Carlton on this weekend’s episode of Melbourne Weekender.
“Richo and I know this area well,’’ Taylor said.
“I often watch these shows myself to find out what the local haunts are and just to know where to grab a coffee.
“I love the coast but I love spending the majority of my time in Fitzroy on the weekend and I get a buzz out of the city.”
Taylor will be calling the Anzac Day match on Thursday.
“I hope we can get 100,000 people there,’’ he said.
Capper says he’s getting Netflix treatment
Warwick Capper says he’s eyeing a starring role on Netflix, in the same vein as the David Beckham documentary.
The former Swans high-flyer sold his Oakleigh strip club Westminster Secrets two weeks ago to Chinese businessmen.
Now he’s in talks to be part of a fly-on-the-wall series on his colourful life — which has included AFL stardom and stints as a Gold Coast Meter Maid, porn star and barista.
He said the project would also feature his son Indiana, a builder based in Queensland.
“Netflix want to do a thing on my life like they did on David Beckham. He got $40m for that but he’s a poor man’s Warwick Capper,’’ he said.
“I broke about even on the club, happy to move on and I might be doing a bit of real estate stuff.”
Capper also said he’s expecting to get a call at some stage to inform him he’s being inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
Capper played 124 games for Sydney and Brisbane between 1983 and 1991, booting 388 goals.
“Hopefully I get in. I saw Jason Dunstall was made a legend and I’m bigger than him,’’ he said.
Coach opens up on Dusty’s rise
High performance mindfulness coach Emma Murray, who helped transform Richmond into a premiership winning juggernaut, has given an insight into her work with superstar Dustin Martin.
Murray detailed her career rise while speaking this week on the Good Humans Podcast with Cooper Chapman, and how she worked with Martin ahead of his brilliant 2017 season.
“At that time he did have the biggest contract in the AFL, he was one of the best players in the league,’’ Murray said.
“Dusty is this enigma that never does media interviews, no one knows him, he’s just like this god of football. And here I got this text saying Sam Lloyd said I should see you.
“The team was going terribly and really underperforming and he’s the superstar. He’s like ‘it’s really noisy in my mind’ — that’s the only word he used to describe it — ‘when I get the ball I just put it on the boot and get rid of it quickly’.
“I had 15 minutes with this guy, and I’m (having) massive impostor syndrome, I don’t even really know what I’d do here — this is Dusty Martin.
“So I got him to straight away close his eyes and go back into his subconscious mind of when he plays his best football and bring up this picture and he describes this picture to me: This strong chest, his shoulders back, and he’s using words like I’m strong and unstoppable. So I said ‘OK Dusty, every time you feel a bit noisy I want you to stop, really pull your shoulders back, take this deep breath and tell yourself ‘I’m really strong and unstoppable’.
“Richmond got pumped and I would watch Dusty and he’d take this big deep breath and put his shoulders back, and I could see him doing this. He got best on ground, the game finishes, we lost and I get this text message two hours after the game going ‘this shit really works’.
“He started seeing me and he literally got Brownlow votes from that game forward and he went on to do this work every single week, religiously he would turn up to my house, he would do this work and the following year when Richmond won a premiership he won every conceivable award there was to win.”
Murray then started to work with the broader Richmond team after being brought in by mindset coach Ben Crowe.
She also spoke about how she worked with Australian Formula One driver Oscar Piastri when he was 16.
“I had one conversation and (could tell) this kid is a champion,’’ she said.
Footy’s newest power couple
Footy has a new star and a future glamour couple.
Harley Reid is the talk of the town and the Eagles No.1 draft pick is also in a relationship with AFLW star Yasmin Duursma.
The low-key teenagers appear to be smitten going by their sweet and subtle social media posts.
Yasmin, who has just crossed from Port Adelaide to join Carlton to be closer to family, is the sister of Essendon’s Xavier and North Melbourne’s Zane, and they’ve got another brother Willem who’s coming up through the ranks. The footy talent in those genes run deep.
Midfielder Yasmin is described as a speedy winger and says she likes to run. Sounds like a match made in footy heaven.
The last young Eagles superstar who made a splash with his partner was Chris Judd who had Bec on his arm.
The hype is real and despite having to do long distance, these two footy names are sure to keep making their mark both on and off the field.
Brown calls out Push-Up King
Nathan Brown’s swagger has gone up a notch since his boxing victory over Kane Cornes.
Now he’s nominated his next potential scalp, with his former Richmond teammate Jake “push-up” King.
“I reckon this guy is a bit of a myth,’’ Brown said on Triple M’s Friday Huddle.
“I reckon I could take the Push Up King. Have you ever seen how small his arms are? His arms are abnormally small.”
Jason Dunstall chimed in that Brown was kidding himself.
“I feel incredibly confident saying he will put you into next week. He will knock you clean out.”
Brown replied: “No. I used to train with him and play on him a fair bit and I’d have him covered.”
King called into the show and said he was up for the bout.
“I got a couple of messages, I didn’t think he’d be that stupid,’’ King said.
“I’d be more than happy to entertain that idea because it’ll last as long as his modelling career — it’ll be short-lived. I’d fight with one hand behind my back and I’ll give you eight ounce gloves and I’ll wear 20.”
Brown seemed to soften on the idea by the end of the call.
“I’m starting to have second thoughts … he’s a good man Jake.”
McClure spooked
Broadcaster Sam McClure is frazzled and it has nothing to do with footy.
McClure is worried there’s a ghost in his house which he’s occupied for the past three months.
“It’s been a weird few days,’’ he told the Tradies Podcast with co-host Mitch Cleary.
“I don’t know how to say this, I think I have a ghost in my house.
“I don’t know what to do about it. I recently moved house, I moved from an apartment to a house that was built in the 40s, there’s been some creaks in the middle of the night but nothing that’s ever worried me.
“Then I noticed last week there’s red marks on the wall as you walk in the corridor and they go all the way down.”
McClure said he wiped the marks off but “they’ve come back in different places and they look like fingernail scratches”. He doesn’t think it could be from his beloved dog.
“Mum came over and said that’s blood. I haven’t been bleeding and they’re right down to the bottom. If anyone knows a medium … the reason I say this … a few years ago a former well known footballer who’s still in the industry told me one of the most harrowing ghost stories I’d ever heard in my life. To the point him and his wife and child had to leave the house because they were petrified.
“I remember going home that night and I struggled to sleep and I don’t understand (now) why there are red marks on the wall.”
Real or over-reaction? TBC.
Smith eyeing commentary role
Bailey Smith scoped out the commentary box on Thursday night.
The injured Bulldogs star watched the team win with the Channel 7 crew as he got a look at the behind the scenes coverage.
He was given a tour and sat with the commentators, posting “Go Dogs” from the wing position at Marvel Stadium.
Smith, who’s doing rehab after a knee reconstruction, is attracting plenty of attention having yet to re-sign with the club.
Duo seeking greatest two minutes in sport
Former Hawthorn premiership teammates Campbell Brown and Shane Crawford are heading to the Kentucky Derby.
Taking place on May 4, the race meet is dubbed the greatest two minutes in sport.
The two racing enthusiasts head off on Sunday, with a pit stop in Las Vegas.
Brown recently revealed on his Browny’s Podcast with Jonathan Brown that he visited the doctor and was told he needs a shoulder replacement.
But the former Hawks and Suns player is undeterred and will put it off for as long as possible.
