The Frankston house party that launched a music festival

Most big dreams begin in the classic Aussie backyard, and while Reminisce music festival will be an epic party for 10,000 punters at the Myer Music Bowl this weekend, it started out as 30 people at a humble Frankston house party.

Most big dreams, from footy to cricket to wrestling, begin in the classic Aussie backyard.

This weekend, when promoters Sean Rault, Corey Topp and Mark Middo, host their Reminisce event for up to 10,000 punters at the Myer Music Bowl, it will be hard to forget the humble Frankston patch where it all started.

Rault, Topp and Middo threw their first Reminisce dance party in a backyard in Belar Avenue for 30 people.

“It was the token party house,” Mr Topp said, when the trio revisited the property this week. “We invited 30 people, and went all out with a sound system, a few lights and a three-by-three tent.”

Reminisce organisers asked partygoers to submit their top five dance tracks, which were tallied, then played by the DJ. The vote system is still used today.

The same voters pushed for a move to the Prince Bandroom and now the Bowl.

“It’s amazing to see where we’ve come from, to where we are now,” Mr Topp said.

“This idea is about reminiscing back to when we were 18, when we didn’t have a care in the world, and bringing back the songs that activate those feelings.”

Reminisce 2019 will be headlined by German house duo Booka Shade and Franga’s finest, DJ John Course.
