ST Kilda veteran Leigh Montagna will begin his transition to life behind the microphone when he calls his first game of footy this Friday night.
Montagna, who has yet to decide if he plays on, will debut in commentary with Triple M during Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs.
“They’ve shown a lot of faith in me, Triple M,’’ said Montagna, who has played 287 games in a decorated career with the Saints.
“It’s something that’s more evolved and they suggested I might be good at it so I’ve done a few ghost games. It is something in the future I’d like to do. It could evolve into other sports, but small steps now.”
Montagna will call alongside Luke Darcy, with Chris Judd and Nathan Brown doing special comments, and Neroli Meadows on the boundary.
“I’ve tried to listen to a cross section of people and the best advice I’ve been given is don’t impersonate anyone and just be yourself.”
He added about his future: “I’m still in a bit of limbo but there are a few scenarios being presented.”
