Simple Minds and OMD will also play indoor shows at Margaret Court Arena on December 1 and First State Super Theatre Sydney on December 3. Tickets go on sale November 18 at 10am.
“It’s a year away, but we’re already looking forward to it,” Simple Minds frontman Jim Kerr said. “We better be match fit, Australia deserves that, we’ve had great nights there in the past. OMD toured with us in the UK about ten years ago, they went down a storm. I knew they had a lot of hits, but it seemed like every song was a hit.”
Kerr said while the band formed in 1977, this year marks the 40th anniversary of their debut album Life in a Day.
“We feel blessed and fortunate to have this life we’ve had through playing around with music,” Kerr said. “We had no idea of fame or fortune. My parents weren’t even 40 years old when I started in this band. The idea we would have had this kind of longevity and still be together blows my mind.”
Simple Minds’ have just released a new compilation The Best of 1979-2019 including hits Love Song, Alive and Kicking, Promised You a Miracle, Glittering Prize, Waterfront, All the Things She Said, Sanctify Yourself and Don’t You Forget About Me.
OMD’s hits include If You Leave from the Pretty in Pink soundtrack, as well as Enola Gay, Locomotion, Souvenir, So in Love, Forever Live and Die and We Love You.
