Sam Burgess flies to LA after father-in-law’s AVO against him

South Sydney star Sam Burgess has been spotted in business class on the same international flight as Ivan Cleary, just days after police took out a temporary AVO out against him on behalf of his wife Phoebe’s father.

Sam Burgess has flown to the US amid ongoing drama around his marriage.

The Rabbitohs star boarded a Virgin Australia flight to LA yesterday and was spotted sitting in business class by a Confidential reader. Ivan Cleary was also on the flight.

The 30-year-old has been at the centre of yet another controversy this week after The Daily Telegraph revealed NSW police had taken a temporary AVO against the footballer after an incident with his father in law Mitch Hooke In Bowral at the weekend.

It is understood Burgess has flown to the US to take part in birthday celebrations for former Rabbitohs player Sean Garlick, who own’s Garlo’s Pies and is the father of Bachelorette contestant Jackson Garlick.

There has been much chatter behind the scenes that Burgess has been looking at cutting edge surgical options to repair his busted shoulder. Insiders officials though insist his trip to the US has nothing to do with his medical concerns, although there are ongoing persistent rumours Burgess will soon announce his retirement.

Meanwhile, details of the temporary AVO stipulate Burgess is banned from going within 1km of his father in law’s home and assaulting, stalking, harassing or intimidating anyone in a domestic relationship with him.

Burgess is now being represented by high profile criminal lawyer Chris Murphy with the matter to be heard at Moss Vale Local Court where a judge will decide if a permanent order is required.

The Daily Telegraph recently revealed Burgess and his estranged wife Phoebe had split for a second time.

Confidential understands heated words were exchanged between Burgess and Mr Hooke in front of family members.

Burgess could make an application in the meantime. The Daily Telegraph was told Burgess was at Mr Hooke’s home near Bowral on Saturday to see his own children.

Phoebe was not at the house at the time and it is not alleged Burgess did anything wrong by visiting the house.

The Telegraph has been told a conversation between Burgess and the former CEO of the Minerals Council allegedly escalated into an argument and Mr Hooke told the Rabbitohs superstar to leave.

It is understood Burgess agreed to leave the property hen asked, with the pair allegedly continuing to argue as he left. It is believed police were called after Burgess left the house.

“Police are investigating an incident at a property near Bowral shortly after 5pm yesterday (Saturday),” a police spokeswoman said on Sunday afternoon.

The alleged incident came after reports circulated that Burgess’s estranged wife was preparing to move to Bowral to be closer to her parents.
