She made a name for herself as a contestant on Australian Idol, now Ricki-Lee Coulter is set to work on another reality TV program when she hosts Australia’s Got Talent.

The popular songstress has landed what is arguably her most high-profile gig since appearing on the singing show 15 years ago and believes her past experience with reality TV makes her perfect for the role.

“I’ve never hosted a show before,” she said.

“But the thing that drew me to doing it is it’s not your typical TV hosting role.

“It is very much just me having fun and getting among the action, being myself and bringing out the best in the contestants as well. Also because I have been a contestant on a show, I know all of those things that go through the contestants heads.”

And while the 33-year-old agrees people are exhausted with reality TV, she believes Network Seven’s AGT — which has been on a three-year hiatus since appearing on Nine — will still manage to lure viewers.

The four new judges are Shane Jacobson, Lucy Durack, Nicole Scherzinger and Manu Feildel.

“For so many years when it is a singing show like The X Factor, we know people are going to come out, sing a show that we have heard a million times, it is going to be good or it’s going to be shit so that’s where the viewer fatigue comes in because it is the same thing over and over again,” she said.

“I think the thing with this show is, because it isn’t just a straight singing or dancing or cooking show and the fact there is so much variety, it will be entertaining.

“It is a lighthearted, fun, family show and there’s something for everyone.”

Filming of the talent show begins this week. Be part of the audience at Sydney’s Luna Park (May 11-14) to see a new wave of Australian talent
