Richmond coach Damien Hardwick and his partner Alexandra Crow have been captured out together in public for the first time.
The pair have been keeping a low profile and were seen walking with their dog, named Hank, in Elwood on Sunday afternoon.
Hardwick’s new relationship with the Richmond staffer and separation from his wife Danielle has become a huge talking point in footy circles since the Herald Sun revealed the situation in January.
The three-time premiership coach and father of three insists his personal life will not affect the playing group but the issue has been raised, particularly after Brooke Cotchin, the wife of captain Trent Cotchin, posted her support for Danielle.
Since the club has been back in pre-season training, players Jack Riewoldt, Cotchin and CEO Brendon Gale have all backed Hardwick’s position.
He spoke about the matter for the first time two weeks ago, saying he addressed the issue with his players “openly and honestly”, as the group pushes for a fourth premiership in five years.
“The reality was on the first day back I had to speak to the players about it,” Hardwick said on SEN. “That’s something we do at the club and it was important we did that so we could get on with the business of preparing for round one.
“We just finished a terrific pre-season camp and we always speak about things that are distractions in our lives and distractions that might bring about the demise of great teams.
“That’s the reality of competition, sides are always dealing with those distractions but sides that deal with it best come out on top. We’re now fully focused on preparing for round one and the players are understanding of my situation and where we’re at.
“But what I also have to understand is there are a lot of staff and players that are incredibly close to Danielle and my family.
“The fact of the matter is, my entire family has been a massive part and will continue to be a massive part of the Richmond Football Club.
“I’m glad they’re supporting her and this isn’t about taking sides, it’s about making sure what’s best for everyone.”
Gale also said recently the sensitive situation would have no impact on the playing group.
Danielle Hardwick, who was often referred to affectionately as “Mrs Hardwick”, is a much-loved figure at Tigerland and is still close to a number of the players’ families.
Crow, who works in the Tigers’ commercial sales team, was previously in a relationship with a Carlton executive. She is now back on all her social media accounts.
Richmond faces Carlton in the season opener on March 18.
