Bachelor in Paradise star Jamie Doran suing 10 over portrayal

Bachelor in Paradise star Jamie Doran has announced his plans to sue Channel 10 and Warner Bros over his portrayal on the reality TV show as another contestant complained about receiving the “villain edit.”

Bachelor in Paradise star Jamie Doran is considering legal action against the producers of the Channel 10 reality TV show over his portrayal on the series.

An insider told Confidential that the Sydney firefighter is furious after being made to appear clingy and “emotionally unstable”.

“He’s been made to look weird, like a complete idiot. That’s why he’s so upset,” the source said.

“The editing makes it seem like he’s obsessed with Timm [Hanly]. It’s embarrassing.”

Doran, 40, announced on Instagram that he wants to begin legal proceedings against production company Warner Bros. International and broadcaster Channel 10 but did not provide further details.

Doran said on Instagram he will begin legal action over his portrayal on the show.

“After lengthy consideration, I’ve decided to begin legal proceedings against Network 10 and Warne Bros. Australia … I feel I owe this to at least my family, friends and also fans of The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise,” Doran wrote.

However, a Network 10 spokeswoman said: “Network 10 has not received any papers regarding this claim.”

It comes after he was widely criticised on social media over his antics on the reality TV show, with some viewers raising concerns about his mental health.

One particular storyline that is said to have upset Doran is his seemingly clingy nature towards Timm Hanly.

Doran began sobbing uncontrollably after Hanly expressed his desire to leave the Fijian resort and repeatedly complained about his absence when he temporarily left to attend a wedding.

“Timm’s that guy that comes and gives me a cuddle in the morning and I haven’t had that for the last few days. I’m struggling a little bit without him being here,” a downcast Doran said in a piece-to-camera.

At one point, fellow contestant Ciarran Stott appeared to make light of Doran’s emotional state, branding him “delusional” and “a weirdo”.

“Jamie’s an absolute weirdo, he’s not all there in the head,” Stott said on the show.

Doran had a similar edit during his time on Angie Kent’s season of The Bachelorette last year, with viewers describing him as “stage-5 clinger.”

Meanwhile, Keira Maguire is also unhappy after receiving the villain edit.

Maguire has been the centre of attention on Bachelor In Paradise (BIP) this week after coming into the season a few episodes in and shaking things up with her forthright attitude.

“I am a little bit shocked … a little bit rattled,” Maguire told the JMo Confidential podcast.

“I have obviously been on reality TV before but I feel like I’ve made a really bad decision by going on this particular show.”

It is Maguire’s fourth run at reality TV, following stints on The Bachelor, I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! and the first season of BIP, when she found love with now ex Jarrod Woodgate.

She originally came off as the villain on The Bachelor but found redemption when she and Woodgate got together on BIP.

While taking responsibility for some of the comments she has made on the show, Maguire has been shocked by her edit and again being portrayed as a villain.

“It was a really good time,” she said. “Because I came off the last season quite loved, I really liked that. It is never my intention to go into something and stir shit up but I am such an easy target in the way that I am reacting to things and I speak my mind and have a no filter attitude.”

Emotionally, she added: “I don’t like being a villain. I don’t actually like it. It doesn’t sit well with me. It actually gives me massive anxiety. I don’t want to be hated. I was getting used to being loved.”

Maguire has endured much hate mail and even death threats on social media from those buying into the drama of the season.

“I have had the most disgusting messages in the last week,” she said.

“One person wrote, ‘your face is a f***ing mess, full of potholes’. Someone else said, f***ing dogs like you deserve a flogging, if I came across you, I would beat the f*** out of you’. People go out of their way to say something nasty. Another person told me to get in a bath and put a hair dryer in it to kill myself. ”

The 34-year-old has not been able to watch this season due to the bad edit.

“I expected they were going to change things but not to this level,” she said. “Even my words, they are stitching sentences together. Any time that I am not on screen and I am saying something, if you listen carefully, you will hear a different tone. It just doesn’t make sense.”

In the wide-ranging interview, Maguire also spoke of her desire to one day settle down, get married and have children. She has also set herself a “flexible” timeline.

“I will probably consider freezing my eggs at 35,” she said. “I have still got almost a year before I start thinking about that though.”
