Radio king Neil Mitchell and Tom Elliott vie for Best Talk Presenter at radio awards

Melbourne radio heavyweight Neil Mitchell and his rumoured replacement, fellow 3AW host Tom Elliot, will go head to head for a major industry award.

Melbourne broadcast king Neil Mitchell is up against his rumoured 3AW successor Tom Elliott for Best Talk Presenter at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards.

Mornings host Mitchell won the award last year and this year scored nominations for Best Current Affairs Presenter, as well as Best News Event Coverage for the Victorian floods.

The latest nominations were revealed Thursday morning.

In other categories, Melbourne’s Jase Hawkins, of KIIS FM’s Jase and Lauren, is nominated alongside GOLD FM juggernaut Christian O’Connell for Individual Talent of the Year.

His co-host Lauren Phillips is vying for Best New Talent on Air against the likes of Brittany Hockley, Laura Byrne and Leisel Jones.

Triple M’s Rush Hour with James Brayshaw and Billy Brownless has been nominated for Best Networked Show, alongside Nova’s Ricki-Lee, Tim and Joel, KIIS FM’s Will and Woody and prolific duo Kyle and Jackie O.

Kyle and Jackie O will be favourites for Best On Air Team, with The Christian O’Connell Show also making the shortlist.

New category, The Gudinski (Australian Music Champion) Award, will recognise a champion of Australian music in honour of late icon Michael Gudinski, with Tim Blackwell one of the contenders.

SEN’s Gerard Whateley will be up for Best Sports Presenter with the station also earning nods for Best Sports Event Coverage.

Abbie Chatfield is a finalist as Podcast Host of the Year.

The ACRA Awards will be held in Sydney on October 14.
