Radio presenter Jane Kennedy has spent the week in hospital after a serious fall resulted in amnesia and a fractured lower back.
Kennedy has been absent from her Kennedy-Molloy Triple M show this week and explained what happened on Thursday.
She fell outside her home and hit her head, waking up in The Alfred’s trauma unit.
“I was all ready to work on Monday … and as you know I’ve got all five kids at home in lockdown and I was doing some spring cleaning,” Kennedy, 55, told her co-host Mick Molloy.
“And something I got from Aldi about a year ago was a wildlife camera with night vision. I bought it last year and was looking forward to using it. You’ll recall me saying there’s lots of birds out because of isolation, butterflies and foxes in the area.
“I was heading out to strap it on a tree, (and) I must admit I was in my iso uniform at the time, which involved Ugg boots.
“It was raining and I’ve got the night vision wildlife camera in my hand and next minute I woke up with a rather concerned (husband) Rob Sitch next to me in the trauma unit at The Alfred hospital in Melbourne.”
Kennedy has no recollection of the ambulance ride.
She is in a neck brace at home recovering now, but even had to ask what coronavirus was.
“Apparently I’d gone for a ripping sixer and hit my head on the concrete tiles and landed on my lower back and I’ve got post traumatic amnesia,” Kennedy said.
“Thankfully it’s recovered. I’d fallen and I’ve blacked out. To this day I’ve got no memory of what happened. Five kids were hovering over me and I was curled up like a strange cat and talking gibberish.”
She said she had essentially fractured her bottom and was very sore.
“I got a bit of a fright mainly because of my memory. I’m now out of hospital and at home. I’ll be back on air on Monday,” she said.
