Producers tried to make Jess and Matt Price get married on TV — which isn’t that unusual these days — except for the fact that they were on The X Factor.
When Jess and Matt entered the show as a couple producers on the singing competition saw a grand finale ratings bonanza and cashed in either way.
“They tried to make us get married on the show,” Jess told Confidential yesterday at the Sydney launch of Urbanista.
“There were ads on TV: ‘Will Matt propose at the grand final?’”

It got to the point where the question made it to gambling apps and friends looking for a quick payday dabbled in insider trading.
“They (producers) eventually asked ‘Is it OK that we’re putting this out?’ And I said ‘You mean that ad that’s already on air…’” Matt said, laughing.
“There were Sportsbet odds that you could gamble on if I was going to propose.
“We were getting messages from people just saying ‘Let us know, just send a thumbs up or thumbs down so we can bet on it’.”
The pair did not get engaged during the grand finale, where they came third, but Matt did propose May 2017, 18 months after the show.
They married September last year and have been travelling around performing and writing new music in Nashville, which is tipped to be released very soon.
Everything is going incredibly well for the young newlyweds — too well, in fact, because nobody wants to hear songs about two perfectly happy people.
So they have had to write about past relationships and past breakups together, which anyone could agree sounds extremely awkward.
“We’re obviously really happy, but for these songs you’ve got to dig deep so we’ve been writing about past relationships,” Matt said.
“We’ll be halfway through writing a song and be like ‘Who is this about?’
“It’s kind of awkward but it’s like couple’s therapy.”
On top of that, if a song is successful and makes it to the stage, they will have to tour around hearing each other lament about the one that got away.
But they tell themselves it will be OK because it somewhat resembles what their idols Fleetwood Mac sang about.
