Pink Melbourne concert review February 2024: popstar proves why she’s still the queen of the pop

The screams may not have been as epic as last week’s Taylor Swift show, but megastar Pink reminded us why she’s the still the queen of pop.

The shrills weren’t as loud as last week’s epic concerts but megastar Pink reminded Melburnians why she too is still queen of the pops.

With close to 60,000 adoring fans ready to get the party started at Marvel Stadium she continued her love affair with Australia and delivered a knockout performance.

Pink brought her massive Summer Carnival stadium tour to the Docklands on Friday night, and while Taylor Swift wowed for 3.5 hours at the MCG, she produced more than two hours of colour, fun, energy, fireworks, laughs and pitch perfect vocals.

The start was a set of hits — Get The Party Started, Raise Your Glass, Who Knew and Just Like A Pill.

“Hellooooo, are you ready to celebrate?” Pink asked the crowd.

“Are you ready for a sleepover? How the hell is everybody?”

Then her local knowledge kicked in when she took a packet of Tim Tams from the crowd.

“Are those new cool kind of Tim Tams? They’re blue. Double coat, why did we wait this long? Ok thank you, that’ll be my breakfast.”

On this tour Pink is doing 20 stadium shows which is the most by any female artist.

She’s spending 44 days in Australia in total and it’s easy to see why there is such extraordinary demand.

Pink, 44, launched her music career almost 25 years ago and she still doesn’t miss a beat.

“Thanks for having me back you guys,” she said. “I love you so much. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You guys make the rest of the world think they’re possibly missing something. So we’re going to show off, shall we.”

The show continued with more bangers — Try, F...kin’ Perfect, Just Like Fire, Trustfall and Just Give Me A Reason.

Her first aerial move during Turbulence was a masterpiece in change of pace.

She’s brought along the whole family on this tour: husband Carey Hart, and their two kids, Willow, 12, and Jameson, 7.

“How cute is Jameson, he’s so freakin cute,” she said.

Her cover of Bob Dylan’s Make You Feel My Love, which she loved hearing by Adele, was full of heart.

One of the sweetest moments came when her daughter joined her on stage to sing their hit duet Cover Me In Sunshine.

“I’m fine with it that she gets the loudest cheer of the night because she’s the best ever,” the proud mum said.

She added: “… It’s the Summer of Taylor Swift and Willow Hart, we’re two bad arses and we go with it.”

It’s those touches which fans of Pink resonate with and have long admired.

During the anthemic finale So What, she fearlessly flies through the air leaving fans in awe of her theatrics and enduring star power.

She’s returning Saturday night and for two more Melbourne dates on March 12 and 13 – it’s a show worth shouting about.
