Pettifleur Berenger says her reputation was damaged on I’m a Celebrity

Pettifleur Berenger has lashed out at comedian Ash Williams, saying he concocted a love triangle “for five minutes of TV time”.

Former Real Housewives of Melbourne star Pettifleur Berenger says she’s lost respect for comedian Ash Williams after she claims he started a fake love triangle with her and Abbie Chatfield in the jungle.

Berenger says Williams misconstrued their conversation on I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! which has damaged her reputation.

“I didn’t know he talked from two sides of his mouth,’’ Berenger said.

“We were friends and my question that looked really cringing was: ‘You said you like me and I’m the person you’re interested in, and not Abbie. So if I gave you the green light, what would you do?’

“And he says: ‘Maybe I’d go for it.’ Then he goes to Grant Denyer and tells what I said and he should have told me no.

“For five minutes of TV time, you sell another person out. I’m not happy about it.

“It’s a perception of people thinking I’m an just old bag who is fit enough to be his mother, going after him. Like seriously, that is a reputation I’ve got to now live with.”

Berenger, who was the second contestant to leave the jungle on Sunday night, said Williams’ budding romance with Chatfield was just to get airtime.

She said she had many conversations which weren’t shown about how she wasn’t interested in men.

“We had a chat with Paulini and we go ‘are you interested in Abbie’ and he goes ‘no’,’’ she said of Williams.

“He said, ‘you’re my taste, not Abbie’. He continued to tell me the same thing.

“She’s really got her arms around him and pinching pimples off his back. To me that was revolting, do you really need to be desperate to have somebody.

“At my age I want to be treated like a princess, not get pimples out of somebody’s back.

“I’ve been there, I’ve got three sons, I’ve been married twice, I’ve been a mother, I’ve been the housekeeper. I’m not in any hurry to have somebody in my life.

“I’m free and single and happy. I’m enjoying my kids and that is my life right now.

“So for him to have twisted this whole thing where he openly continually told me I’m his type, it’s hard when the viewer sees part of the conversation.”

Berenger said she carefully considered her decision to return to reality TV but she gave “150 per cent” and wanted viewers to see a different side to her.

She said she could have lasted in the conditions for another eight weeks.

“I would have preferred to be seen as the humble, down-to-earth person I am,’’ she said.

“I’m really one of those people who pick up the people doing it tough in life and I’m a humanitarian in every way.

“I help the strugglers and I give a lot of time to people who are less fortunate than me.

“On the show, it’s hard to come across but I hope Australia has seen a different side to me, a much softer side.

“Not being someone all about the fine things in life. I’m far from it. I appreciate it and I’m fortunate and I feel grateful but I’m also very much someone who is a good friend and mother and sister and someone who is there to give people a hand and cheer them on when they’re down. I want Australia to see nothing but who I am.”
