PAUL Hogan is returning to the big screen to play himself in a new Dundee comedy.
While it’s not a re-boot of the Crocodile Dundee classic, the movie called The Very Excellent Mr Dundee! follows Hogan, 78, as he’s “on the brink of receiving a Knighthood for services to comedy”.
DUNDEE TRAILER ACTUALLY TOURISM AD
The cast has yet to be revealed for the Transmission Films feature but Hogan has forecast some big names will be involved.
He urged fans to “watch this space, as I’ve been honoured to have many of my friends and colleagues, whose work I adore, agree to join us for this hilarious adventure.”
Despite his manager’s advice not to “do anything to mess this up”, Hogan spends the next six weeks destroying his reputation.
He will re-team with NSW filmmaker Dean Murphy, who directed him in his two most recent movies, 2004’s Strange Bedfellows and 2009’s Charlie & Boots.
Filming will take place in Australia, Los Angeles and Vancouver, and production begins in July.
There has been a huge groundswell of support for a Dundee return, more than 30 years since Crocodile Dundee first burst onto the scene.
US comedian Danny McBride featured along with Chris Hemsworth in a mock trailer in February which turned out to be a Super Bowl ad for Tourism Australia.
