Were they reminiscing about happier times — when Luke Sayers was Carlton president and Michael Voss had them rising up the ladder — or just in need of an ice cold martini when the pair dined together.

Former Carlton president Luke Sayers has yet again been spied having an intimate dinner for two at a swish Melbourne establishment.

In what has been described as a calculated journey back into public life since the January “lewd” photo scandal that ended his Carlton presidency, Sayers has had no qualms dining out at several top notch eateries.

On Thursday night the former Blues boss was seen having dinner for two with his ol’ mate, Carlton coach Michael Voss at Gimlet.

Chef extraordinaire Andrew McConnell’s Gimlet at Cavendish House, named one of the top restaurants in the world, has become the hotspot for our stars and powerbrokers to nestle in over Ramos gin fizz cocktails and tableside tartare since opening in 2020.

Sayers spent 12 years on the Carlton board and became extremely close to Blues coach Voss during his tenure as president before stepping down after THAT er, “lewd” pic.

In January, a photo of a penis was posted by Sayers’ X account. A senior staffer from Bupa, who helped manage the insurer’s three-year sponsorship deal with Carlton Football Club, was tagged in the post.

Sayers maintained throughout the scandal that he was hacked and an investigation by the AFL backed up his explanation.

Voss and Sayers have long been close, with the Carlton power duo often going to events together in Sayer’s presidency heyday and presenting superstars from NFL hero Tom Brady, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and UK pop singer Robbie Williams with the dark navy blues guernsey while they were in town.

Sayers was first to congratulate Voss last year when he made a citizen’s arrest and chased down an alleged car thief armed with a knife and held on to him until police arrived.

The two have remained firm friends since controversy hit former PwC chief executive Sayers at the start of this year and resulted with his eponymous consulting group rebranded as Tenet Advisory & Investments last month.

In April, Sayers threw a private lunch at South Yarra bistro France-Soir, as an unofficial thank you for supporting him over the photo scandal with guests including former AFL boss turned Tabcorp chief Gill McLachlan, St Kilda president Andrew Bassat, who he has business relations with, his fixer Sharon McCrohan and Brian Cook.

Sayers, a Blues tragic, was also recently seen back watching his beloved Carlton, as a guest of the club’s outgoing CEO Cook in the MCC Committee room last month.

The pair are good friends, with Sayers luring Cook — who steps down from the role in October — from Geelong to be his right hand man after an extraordinary career at the cattery where he was widely regarded as the best in the business.

Back to Voss, who fellow diners noted was sporting a nice tan in the warm lighting at Gimlet ahead of Carlton’s clash with old rivals Essendon on Sunday night.

Voss was recently holidaying in Fiji during Carlton’s bye round, saying he “nearly fell off his day bed” when he read about trade talk’s of Sam Walsh’s future at the club.
