Olivia Newton-John hopes to spend more time at home as she continues cancer fight

SHE shot to Hollywood fame and has won dozens of awards throughout her career, but Olivia Newton-John says raising awareness for cancer is her most important achievement yet — and there’s more to do.

AS she fought cancer for a second time — a battle she says she is winning — Olivia Newton-John was this year forced to sit back and spend more time at home.

For a performer who travels the world and has so many work commitments, this was easier said than done. But for Newton-John, it has turned into a blessing.

“I found I was forced to slow down, and I loved it,” she told Confidential.

LIVVY STILL MAKING A DIFFERENCE

“So now, I just want to do more of just being at home with my animals and my husband, and watching the flowers grow.

“Doing things like organising my kitchen shelves, which sounds really stupid, but those are the little things that are really fun about being home.”

Newton-John will take part in the annual Wellness Walk & Research Run on Sunday, to raise money for her Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre.

She was the guest of honour at her annual ONJ Gala at Crown last Friday.

On Sunday, if there are any emotions after what has happened this year, it will be happiness — especially after the outpouring of love for her during this trip home to Melbourne.

“I’m happy, not sad,” she said. “I’m happy, and if there are any tears on Sunday, they will be good tears, like I felt the other night.

‘There was such an outpouring of love, I felt that very strongly.

“When you are going through something like this, love and prayers really help. I’m very grateful of everything.”

Olivia newton John opens up about battles with cancer

With everything she has achieved in her career in the entertainment business, helping build the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre, plus raising awareness and being an inspiration to many who are also touched by cancer, are some of her proudest achievements.

“I feel that all the things that I’ve done in my life up to now, maybe this is the important part,” she said.

“This is where you can transform people’s lives.”
