KATE Jenkinson has praised the Olivia Newton-John miniseries for highlighting strong female friendships.

Jenkinson plays Newton-John’s BFF Pat Farrar, who was also her business partner in the failed Koala Blue enterprise and wife of songwriter John Farrar, who wrote You’re the One That I Want, Magic and Hopelessly Devoted to You.

“So much is made of the men in Olivia’s life, but Pat’s friendship was possibly the greatest love of her life,” Jenkinson said.

“That got her through some of the hardest times in her life.”

Jenkinson filmed the Channel 7 miniseries, which concludes this Sunday night, between playing inmate Allie Novak on Foxtel prison drama, Wentworth.

“The biggest joy for me was to go from prison teals to sparkles and sequins and champagne in Olivia’s world. The costumes in the ’80s are kitsch central.

“Delta (Goodrem) and I got to play those characters from their mid 20s to their mid 50s, so we got to go through quite a few eras of good and bad fashion choices.

“And I got to turn up to work every morning and hear Delta sing these amazing songs. When I sat down for the first script read and Delta started singing You’re the One That I Want. I got chills and I knew it would fantastic.”

The first part of the Olivia miniseries wasn’t a huge ratings success, but more viewers are expected to be raked in this week.

Goodrem has also been appearing on The Voice as a coach alongside Boy George, Joe Jonas and Kelly Rowland.

The contest is now heading into the live shows, starting Sunday.

Goodrem will sign copies of the Olivia soundtrack album I Honestly Love You at Watergardens today from 4pm.
