Rugby league star Sam Burgess has quietly parted ways with the mother of his two children for the second time in a year.
The Rabbitohs footballer and his journalist wife are understood to have attempted to make their marriage work after well documented difficulties over the past year, but have decided to go their separate ways.
”They tried to give it a go but it just didn’t work,” a source close to the couple said.
“The most important thing for them is that their children are happy and healthy, that is their priority.”

The Sunday Telegraph understands the pair has been living in separate homes for a few weeks, while doing their best to co-parent daughter Poppy, two, and 10-month-old son Billy.
Phoebe and the children remain in the couple’s $3.8 million Maroubra home.\

Their marriage woes hit the headlines in December last year when the couple split, just three weeks after Billy’s birth.
Not long after reports of their marriage breakdown came to light, the England international was photographed leaving their Sydney eastern suburbs home with suitcases and not wearing his wedding ring.
At the time Burgess was understood to be living between celebrity accountant Anthony Bell’s $11.5 million Dover Heights mansion and Souths co-owner Russell Crowe’s farm in Nana Glen.
Three months later, the pair put on a united front and appeared to rekindle their relationship with Phoebe telling Stellar magazine in April: “We are together, we are married”.
“We’ll bunker down and look after each other,” she said.
The couple tied the knot in 2015 after one year of dating after meeting at an Aviici concert.
The Sunday Telegraph contacted both Sam and Phoebe Burgess yesterday, but both declined to comment.
