THE host of Australian Ninja Warrior Rebecca Maddern has defended the popular show having no real winner.
Fans were in uproar on Tuesday night, after no one completed the first half of the second stage.
However Maddern said they were only following the format’s rules, and people would get used to it come the second series.
“Maybe Australia does want a winner, but they need to change the psyche with that I think,” she said.
“That is the show the way it is across the world.
“The worst thing that could have happened, if we made the course easy, and then there was a winner, and how would that winner stack up against the US winners?
“They would all laugh at us, because they didn’t do it on the real ninja course.
“It’s a format that needs to be followed.
“It’s like the 100m sprint, you can’t make it 80 metres in another country.”
Maddern made no excuses for how tough the final course was.
“The course is hard,” she said.
“We always said from the outset, it is the most challenging course in the world.
“So, knowing what we know, and knowing it took seven seasons in the US for someone to get up Mount Midoriyama, the odds are stacked against us a little bit.”
Maddern said one of the reasons the show worked, is because it focused on positive back stories.
“There is no villain, there is no casting of characters, the competitors are you who they are,” she said.
“Everyone on the course had different goals and different objectives.
“Some people wanted to win, and some people just wanted to participate, and there is nothing more special than watching people achieve their dreams, whatever that dream may be.
“It was just a feel good show.”
