Melbourne radio legend and 3AW star Philip Brady hosted Nightline for the last time on September 26.
Brady said in a statement today: “3AW is family to me. Apart from almost 30 years of Nightline, I was the station’s casual weekend music presenter right through the 1970s so my heart is at 3AW and will continue to be so.
“Thanks to all our loyal listeners, callers and regulars; it has been a fun ride so far and will continue to be so at weekends. Long may our hearts beat together.“
Brady, 80, will continue to host 3AW’s Remember When program with Simon Owens on Sunday nights.
Nightline will be replaced by Nights with John Stanley, running from 8pm to midnight, Monday to Friday, from September 30.
Stanley said: “Philip is a giant of our industry and for me, it’s a daunting but exciting challenge to move into the space. I’ll be striving to maintain the Nightline tradition of entertaining and engaging radio. The late night audience is loyal, interesting and often colourful. I’m looking forward to talking to and hearing from them”.
Simon Owens, who has been Brady producer and on-air partner since the death of Nightline co-host broadcaster Bruce Mansfield three years ago, will also continue as presenter of Remember When with Brady.
Owens paid tribute to Brady on social media on Mondday.
“Philip has been on air on Nightline since 1991. Almost half of his 60 year showbusiness career has been right here on 3AW,” he said.
“Whilst of course there is sadness at the prospect of not hosting Nightline, it is important to look to the future.”

He added: “Usually when these decisions are made in this industry, the hosts are quietly shown the door. But such is the respect for Philip, an industry legend, management have asked us to stay on hosting Remember When.
“A big hearty thank you to all of those who have been a part of the large Nightline family. We are so proud that we have achieved our highest ratings ever this year with three surveys placing us at a share of over 30% of the audience.
“As sad as we are to no longer be hosting, we take great comfort that John has been chosen to take the reins.”
