Neighbours stars fume over Logies disrespect

Neighbours veteran Stefan Dennis has ripped into the Logies, saying the soap “got f--- all” at the awards night ahead of its finale.

Ryan Moloney slams Logies for ‘incredibly disappointing’ treatment

Neighbours veteran Stefan Dennis has slammed the Logies for its “snub” of the soap, saying Australian television’s biggest night can “f--- off”.

Dennis, who has played Paul Robinson since day one, said the show deserved more acknowledgment from the industry for its contribution across 37 years.

“It was a sore point, the old Logies, I’m pretty pissed off and I wasn’t alone,’’ the longest serving cast member said.

“I was trying to keep check because I didn’t want to get angry and turn it into a bad night. It was basically a snub.

“Thirty-eight years, the longest running show in Australian television history with the accolades it has, it’s about the industry and what the show has been and meant for four decades.

“For it to get a tribute of 40 seconds, f--- off.

“It would have been nice for Neighbours to get some sort of industry vote or recognition or accolade. For the industry to turn around and say thanks Neighbours, you’ve lasted and made history, here’s a little present. But we got f--- all.”

As the cast gathered to bid farewell at Fremantle studios on Wednesday, Dennis’ disappointment was echoed by Jackie Woodburne, who described the tribute as disrespectful.

The show wrapped filming on June 10 with the final episode to air on 10 Peach on August 1.

“I thought it was very disrespectful to us and to the industry,’’ Woodburne said.

“That was the best they could do. It felt like a slap in the face and undeserved because I know how hard everyone works.

“It was very unsophisticated … why bother? If you can’t do it properly, why bother?

“The clip they put together was so old and pretty irrelevant.

“It looked like the show was about throwing cakes and food over other people and it bore no resemblance to what the show is about.

“It was dismissive and in terms of celebrating our industry and the fact it’s been going 38 years, they could have done a much more professional job.

“They had Ryan (Moloney) and Stefan there, they could have presented on stage. It was disappointing, it was just bad television. The Logies should be a couple of hours entertainment and it wasn’t entertainment, it was just bad TV.”

Ryan Moloney, who has played Toadie for close to 28 years, vented his frustrations last week.

“At the end of the day I just thought it was shit, so I said so,’’ he said.
