Nathan Buckley has opened up about the anguish of paparazzi shadowing his family after his marriage breakdown.
“I am going through a separation, so I have been out of home for nearly two years and the paps are following my ex-wife and sometimes with my boys,” Buckley, the former Collingwood player and coach, said on I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here.
Buckley told former NRL player Beau Ryan, who is also competing on the Channel 10 reality show, paparazzi are “also looking for photos with me and my current partner,” adding: “I’ve never understood it until now”.
He and his ex-wife Tania confirmed in December 2020 that they had separated. They have two sons.
Buckley is now dating cosmetic injector Alex Pike.
Ryan, who also felt the media glare over an alleged affair with former Hi-5 singer Lauren Brant seven years ago, said: “I feel in this world, paps are always going to be around, but it’s all good until your family’s involved. Nathan’s going through it now which isn’t a good feeling”.
Ryan was married and his daughter was young at the time of the alleged cheating scandal. Neither Ryan and Brant confirmed or denied the tryst.
In a 2016 magazine interview, Ryan said dealing with the media while also supporting Kara was the hardest thing he’s ever had to do.
“It was like my whole world just fell apart,” he told the magazine. “I was just really upset and embarrassed and all I could think about was my family.”
