Former Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has resurfaced in public life to air his views about Covid-19 and lockdowns.
The Magpies legend, who coached his final game last month, posted on Twitter on Sunday: “53,283 tests yesterday in Victoria, presumably most of those from people exposed to people and places with confirmed positive. 16 new positives. So, exactly how contagious is this thing again? My logical brain is failing to comprehend.”
Buckley’s comment attracted a mix of responses, with many of his 63,000-odd followers agreeing, while some questioning his take.
He acknowledged the different perspectives and after a raft of likes, retweets and replies, then wrote: “On a quite separate aspect … I totally agree on these short sharp hard lockdowns. They seem to be quite effective. I wonder what the long term solution is though …”
Buckley added: “A raft of assumptions and inferences being returned from one observation … that is your prerogative. With some great informed logical perspectives in there as well.
“Clearly a highly discussed topic with lots of associated emotional triggering. Be kind to each other.”

Buckley even congratulated a parody account of traded players Adam Treloar and Jaidyn Stephenson that gave him feedback, comparing the situation to being over the salary cap.
Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury retweeted Buckley’s original comment with an explosion animation, pointing to the likely flurry of responses for the controversial move.
Buckley’s partner, cosmetic nurse Alex Pike, reposted his tweet on her Instagram stories, with the comment: “End lockdown”.
Last month Buckley stepped down after 478 games as player and coach with a win against Melbourne played at the SCG.
