Nadia Bartel says she used to be a carpark and nursery girl when she first started going to the races at Flemington.
Now a fashionable socialite who is this year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival ambassador, Bartel admits she’s come a long way.
“When I first started coming I was more a nursery, carpark girl and I used to go in general a fair bit,’’ she said.
“You get amongst it and it’s fun and it’s rowdy. In recent years I’ve spent more time in the birdcage but I like them all for different reasons. I still like going into the nursery and I like the togetherness there and you can roam from carpark to carpark.
“I’ve done a few super sites with my girlfriends. We’ve done just the carpark and had everything in the back seat. At the end of the day it’s not fun.”
The mum of two met 2000 Melbourne Cup winner Brew at the track for the Cup’s launch on Tuesday.
Bartel welcomed the news that lockdown was ending.
“It’s been so tough and we’ve all been looking for that little bit of relief and it was just exciting that we finally got some positive news,’’ she said.
“We’ve all been good, sticking to the rules.”
