Model Kanika Batra slammed by survivor after writing Ted Bundy book

Model Kanika Batra has opened up about the trolling she faced after writing a book on infamous serial killer Ted Bundy, who murdered dozens of women in the 1970s.

Miss World Australia hopeful Kanika Batra says beauty and brains are not mutually exclusive after she was trolled for releasing a book inspired by late American serial killer Ted Bundy.

Last month, Bundy survivor Carol DaRonch criticised Batra’s book Honeytrap, which reimagines Bundy’s heinous crimes and weaves true crime into fiction.

Batra was accused of glorifying Bundy, who was executed more than 30 years ago for raping and murdering countless women in the 1970s.

“Carol and her followers were criticising me on Facebook. She posted about my book and said she doesn’t get it and her followers said I was ‘braindead’, ‘psychotic’ and that I’m ‘an airhead who can’t write’ just because I do beauty pageants,” the model said.

“I did about two years of research, I spoke with police officers who worked on Ted Bundy’s case, along with his psychiatrist Dr. Dorothy Lewis and one of his former colleagues. It just baffles me that people think I’m an idiot because I do pageants.”

DaRonch was just 18 when she fought Bundy off during an attempted kidnapping Utah in 1974 and she was one of only a few women to survive the serial killer.

Batra, who is studying finance at The University of Sydney, has denied glorifying Bundy in her book and said that her fascination with him began several years ago.

“I watched a documentary on Ted Bundy and I found him so interesting because he worked at a suicide hotline and rape prevention crisis centre so it was so shocking for me to see that he was actually saving lives while simultaneously murdering and torturing women,” Batra said.

“So this dual personality was really fascinating for me and I simply wanted to unravel his thoughts and see what was causing this and how he could live this double life.”

Following the release of Honeytrap, Batra is now working on a book about late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
