MAD Max: Fury Road beauty Abbey-Lee Kershaw has spoken about the struggle to make the transition from modelling to movies.
Kershaw, 27, born and raised in North Melbourne, stars alongside famous models, including Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Riley Keough, Courtney Eaton and Zoe Kravitz, as a harem of “breeders” in Australian director George Miller’s action blockbuster.
Kershaw, who shot to global fame in campaigns for Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Versace and Dolce & Gabbana, spent six months in the Namibian desert filming her part for Mad Max.
She told Confidential: “Acting is a big learning curve for me. It feels like I’m starting at the bottom of something again. But I’m all about that fight, and fighting for roles.
“It’s hard to get that faith when there is no proof I can pull it off, so I’m just trying to convince people that I can act,” Kershaw said.
She said shooting Mad Max was intense. “It was physically, emotionally and mentally gruelling.”
Model Megan Gale, who plays a gun-blasting warrior in the film, agreed with Kershaw’s comments about the leap to movies.
“When you are known publicly for doing different things outside of acting, and especially if you are well known as a model, there is that stigma attached,” Gale said. “But you can’t let that affect your confidence.”
Huntington-Whiteley is a Victoria’s Secret model.
Kravitz is rocker Lenny Kravitz’s daughter.
Keough is Elvis Presley’s granddaughter.
Eaton is a model from Bunbury, WA.
