Melbourne’s mystery Batman has been found.
The sighting of a masked stranger dressed in full Batman attire just over a week ago had the city talking.
The man was caught watching over traffic at a busy Melbourne intersection, the corner of Kings Way and City Rd at 4.30am on March 31.
He was snapped by FOX FM producer Leon Sjogren and today identified himself as Taylor from South Morang.
“It started off a little bit of a joke between me and my mum to be honest,’’ he told the Fifi, Fev and Byron breakfast show.
“She was being mum and giving me a lecture about being safe and what not with the virus.
“I told her the city was safe and she had nothing to worry about. It was a friend who dared me to put the suit on.”
Taylor said it was not the first time he had stepped out in the Batman suit.
“It started a few years ago when my little brother, it was his birthday and I’ve gone as Batman to the birthday,” he said.
“I’m not going to lie, for a good five minutes I actually felt like Batman, so that’s where it all started.”
Taylor said he was staying in the city with some mates that day and left his phone at the accommodation, forcing him to ask tradies to help get back in.
“For me to get back, I had to ask the tradies who were lurking to cross the road,” Taylor said.
“They found it hilarious. For me I thought it would have been more embarrassing to ask them with the mask off so I left the mask on and felt they didn’t know who I was so they couldn’t laugh. I left the bat phone upstairs and had to ask a bunch of tradies across the road if they could help. That was the best bit.”
Brendan Fevola asked why he was standing there, and whether it was to freak everyone out.
“I was definitely just making sure the city knew it was in safe hands. I would have been there for no longer than half an hour max. It was cold I wanted to go back upstairs,’’ Taylor said.
“I thought I better to go inside … they might call the authorities.”
Mr Sjogren previously said the sighting was slightly unnerving.
“He was watching me as I took the photo. I was worried he took my number plate down,” he said.
